Your old site stays live during the move
Why visitors never see a gap, and when it's safe to cancel your old provider.
Updated
We copy your site rather than moving the original, so your current website keeps running exactly as it does today until your domain is switched.
During the move
- Your visitors keep seeing your existing site.
- Your existing contact forms keep working the way they do now.
- Your email is not affected.
At the switch
When you approve the imported copy, you update your domain's records to point at Flagstage. Most visitors see the new home within a few hours; some networks take up to a day or two to catch up. During that window, some visitors may see the old site and some the new one, which is why we keep both identical at the switch.
When to cancel your old provider
Wait until:
- Your domain points to Flagstage and the site loads correctly.
- You've downloaded anything you want to keep from the old provider, like past form submissions.
- You've confirmed your email doesn't depend on the old provider. If it does, move email first.
Not sure? Ask in your Inbox and we'll help you work out what's safe to turn off.
