Own your website: what a full export means and why we give you one

After every approved update, a complete copy of your site is ready to download. Here's what's in it, and why we think it's the most important thing we offer.

Most website platforms make leaving hard. Not on purpose, always — but the result is the same. Your pages live inside their system, and if you want to go somewhere else, you start over.

We decided early on that Flagstage would work the other way.

What's in an export

After every change you approve, we produce a complete copy of your live website:

  • Every page, as a standard HTML file.
  • Every image, stylesheet, and script the site uses.
  • The same folder structure your site is served from today.

It's not a proprietary backup format. It's the website itself — the kind of files any web host in the world can serve. You could upload it somewhere else this afternoon.

Why we do this

Because it changes the relationship. If you can leave whenever you like with everything you came with, the only reason to stay is that we're doing a good job. That's the incentive we want.

It also protects you from things that have nothing to do with us. Businesses get sold. Partners split up. People retire. In every one of those situations, having a complete, portable copy of your website makes life simpler.

What it isn't

An export is a copy of your website. It doesn't include your domain name — that stays registered to you wherever it lives — and it doesn't include form submissions, which you can download separately from your Account as a spreadsheet.

How to get yours

Ask for it from your Account Inbox, and we'll send you a download link to the latest approved version of your site. You don't need a reason, and nobody will try to talk you out of it.

Want this handled for you?

Flagstage customers send changes like these in one message and approve a preview before anything goes live.

Start with the site you already have.

Tell us where your website lives today. You'll create an Account next, and we'll start copying the real thing.

Moving in is included. Your current site stays up while we copy it.
